Hotels in PADUM are mostly single or double storied structures (G + 1 or 2) typically constructed in the traditional Ladakhi designs. The hotels layout is a typical squarish design with a central entrance connecting a square shaped garden restaurant in the centre & rooms on all four sides with a passage. Similarly, the first floor will have rooms with a common inner balcony running on all four sides. The rooms would be self contained with a generous big sized window frames in the typical Ladakhi wooden pattern. The terrace will have solar panels for Water Heaters (in most of the hotels).

I had to backtrack a few kms & stay with one of the Muslim family in MINJEE. The host were very courteous and offered good tasty food for the night & a place to sleep.

• Review                    :- I had stayed in this Bunglow. Location is just on the Kargil Padum road, but is diagonal located and hence not easily visible. Basic rooms with attached bath. Location is extremely beautiful & offers a direct view of the NUN KUN peaks. It’s a treat to sip the local Tea brew in the evening looking at the towering sister peaks. Good Hospitability. I reached Kargil J K Tourist office on a Sunday at 04:00 pm. I was told to go directly to Purikutchey. I met the caretaker. He arranged for the accommodation & food. It was a good experience. I would strongly recommend that all travelling to ZANSKAR by self owned / driven vehicles should make it upto PURIKUTCHEY for a night stay instead of staying at Kargil.

• Experience the culture of the locals by staying in the monastery itself. You can rent a room in the monastery itself at a very nominal cost.

 STONGDEY MONASTERY

• There is a guest house at STONGDE monastery. Details for its accommodations would be uploaded shortly. I have personally seen the guest house. From the outer side, it looked clean & reasonably good.
• But there are no eateries nearby & one would have to go down to the village or eat at the monastery. 

PHUKTAL MONASTERY

• Homestay options are available at ANMO, CHA & PURNE village enroute.
• You can even rent a room in the monastery itself at a nominal cost.
• There is also a guest house at PHUKTAL. If you have the luxury of a 4 day tour to Phuktal, I strongly recommend that you spend a night at the monastery.
